I
am honored to be part of the weaving tradition of my home
village, Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico. Extended studies
in Mexico City and a series of strong mentors instilled
in me a drive to master more elaborate dying and weaving
techniques, maintain my use of traditional wool and tools
while developing my own design sense. During that time I
was commissioned by various painters to weave their often
challenging and complex designs. In 1988 Sandra and I met
and began our work and life together.
My greatest joy is to have opened our
own gallery, Martinez Studio in 1994 and the freedom it
represents. Our gallery focuses on our individual work as
well as our continued collaborations. I enjoy sharing the
weaving process in a working studio environment and the
deepening of our relationships with clients that come back
year after year.
